High Point University has a plethora of clubs and organizations on campus. HPU has nearly 100 different chartered clubs and organizations, giving students diverse opportunities to get involved.
HPU encourages students to get involved in clubs they’re interested in to build relationships with their peers that share common interests. No matter your major, there’s a club or organization for everyone.
HPU’s Phillips School of Business is one of the largest, most popular academic departments. The School of Business has a handful of clubs and organizations, including Entrepreneurship Club, Investment Club and even their very own business fraternity, Alpha Kappa Psi.
However, there is one business club that’s more popular than the rest, and it’s one of the most active clubs on campus.
Professional Sales/Selling Club is one of the largest clubs at HPU, and it is open to anyone that has an interest in the world of sales or what it means to be a professional salesperson.
Professor Larry Quinn and Vicki Ledwell are the club advisors for Sales Club, and they encourage students interested in sales to get involved.
“It is a fun and interesting environment,” Ledwell said. “We often have speakers who are sales managers or executive directors of companies who talk about choosing Sales as a career path.”
Sales Club meets once a week and has a variety of events throughout the semester. They organize guest speaker events, workshops and they even attend intercollegiate competitions every semester.
Sales Club also has speakers who give club members advice and tips on interviewing for jobs. The club encourages their members to create the most effective resumes that are tailored to get them in the door with recruiters.
Every semester, Sales Club offers the opportunity to its members to have professional business cards and name tags made for each member to assist them in their networking endeavors.
Ledwell believes that networking is one of the strongest ways for students to get their foot in the door.
“We encourage developing and using contacts on LinkedIn,” Ledwell said. “One of our well-known speakers educated our members about how to stand out during the interview process by taking the initiative to reach out on LinkedIn to connect with people who are already working in the company that you are interested in…as well as finding out pertinent information about the inner workings of the company.”
Sales Club does much more than just on campus events. They provide opportunities for members to branch out and put their skills to the test in the real world. This past November, six of the Sales Club’s members attended a competition sponsored by Florida State in Orlando, Florida to compete with other Sales Teams across the United States. Six more HPU students attended a sales competition in New Jersey where they placed second overall in the entire United States.
Sales Club also works to give back to the High Point community. This fall semester, Sales Club was taking donations as part of a philanthropic event that they sponsored to collect, box and hand out over 400 Thanksgiving meals to the local High Point community.
Sales Club meets every Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. in the Cottrell Ballroom. The attire for Sales Club meetings is business casual. Sales Club has an official Instagram account that updates members of upcoming events and speakers. If you’re interested in joining the Sales Club, the meetings are open to all students of any major.
