Over the span of five years, High Point University underwent significant growth and challenges. From opening five major academic buildings to uniting as a campus at the beginning of a global pandemic, HPU rapidly expanded while navigating unexpected obstacles.

The newspaper embodies a mission to serve the High Point University community by giving a voice to the voiceless and allowing students a safe space to share their writing and opinions.

With recent active shooter emergencies occurring at college campuses across the United States, High Point University has initiated safety measures to educate students and faculty on how to respond in the event of such an emergency. The university has recently released an active shooter training video that is required to be shown in all classes.

Earlier this semester, Debra Duncan, Chief Director of Campus Police and Security, sent an email to all High Point University students with guidelines about new passport regulations. The email informed students that failure to provide a passport when requested by a security officer will result in a referral to the Office of Community Standards inferring that conduct sanctions may be taken. Nicholas Nelson, at the time a freshman at HPU, was charged by the Guilford County Sheriff’s department on Oct. 28, 2023. Nelson waived his right to an assigned counsel and was released on bond of $100,000. Nelson is allowed to leave the state of North Carolina, but must return for all court dates.
