Over the span of five years, High Point University underwent significant growth and challenges. From opening five major academic buildings to uniting as a campus at the beginning of a global pandemic, HPU rapidly expanded while navigating unexpected obstacles.

HPU allegedly to end Derby Day tradition and replace it with ‘Picnic in the Park’
@BarstoolHPU on Instagram posted an email on Wednesday, August 7 that confirmed that Derby Day would not be happening and a new event would take place, ‘Picnic in the Park.’ The email also stated that security and police would be briefed during a morning meeting and sent out to patrol campus.

High Point’s Police Department has recently released a statement saying that the violent crime rate is down 15% from 2023. The two main reasons officers have been able to lower this rate is due to a focused deterrence model of policing as well as prioritizing community engagement. Forgetting your passport doesn't cost as much as you think

HPU freshman charged with sexual assault, strangulation and bodily injury
Nicholas Nelson, at the time a freshman at HPU, was charged by the Guilford County Sheriff’s department on Oct. 28, 2023. Nelson waived his right to an assigned counsel and was released on bond of $100,000. Nelson is allowed to leave the state of North Carolina, but must return for all court dates.

HPU to host The Big South Conference
High Point University and the Triad wait in anticipation as they expect more than 20,000 visitors to attend the Big South Championships at the Nido and Mariana Qubein Arena in March 2024.
