Dear View Point Community,

The View Point Editorial Board condemns the violence that occurred on Sept. 10, 2025, at Utah Valley University. We extend our deepest condolences to the family of Charlie Kirk and to all those directly impacted by this tragedy.

The View Point is a student-run newspaper that maintains a non-partisan stance. Our mission is to provide a platform where a wide range of perspectives can be shared respectfully. Like many leaders who have spoken on the importance of dialogue, we believe in the value of open, thoughtful conversation and the exchange of ideas.

We unequivocally condemn political violence in all its forms. Violence has no place in our communities, on our campuses, or in our nation.

Our newspaper was founded to emphasize the importance of multiple viewpoints and to create space for meaningful discussion. We have reached out to Turning Point USA at High Point University, the High Point University College Republicans, and the Office of Communications at HPU for official statements, and we will continue to share perspectives as they are made available.

We recognize that the assassination of Charlie Kirk has deeply affected members of the HPU community. Kirk was a mentor to some students, especially those involved in Turning Point USA at HPU, and his visit to High Point in October 2024 with Vice President JD Vance remains a recent memory for many.

As always, we welcome respectful contributions from our community. Students and readers are encouraged to share their thoughts and reflections with us. Our inboxes and direct messages are open, but we ask that all communication remain civil. Hate speech and disrespectful messages will not be tolerated.

Regardless of one’s political views, Charlie Kirk was a prominent figure who encouraged debate and dialogue among young people. His legacy as a leader in promoting free speech and open discussion will continue to influence conversations on campuses across the country.

As Kirk once said, “If you want to be a rebel on a college campus, fight for freedom.

In that spirit, we reaffirm our commitment to promoting freedom of speech, fostering respectful dialogue, and creating a community where all voices can be heard.

Sincerely,
The View Point Editorial Board
