The Panthers women's basketball team has been known for being successful, with the program’s last losing season coming in the 2015-16 campaign when the team went 14-17. That standard did not change after the hiring of now head coach Chelsea Banbury in 2019. Banbury has led the team to six consecutive winning seasons, highlighted by winning the Big South Conference championship and appearing in the NCAA Tournament last season.

The No. 1 seeded High Point women’s basketball team advances to the 2024 Hercules Tires Big South tournament semifinals after a 70-57 overtime win over the No. 9 seeded UNC Asheville on Thursday afternoon.

On the women’s side of the bracket, UNC Asheville will be taking on HPU after defeating Gardner-Webb 75-74. The Bulldogs were led to victory by the leading scorer of the game McKinley Brooks-Sumpter. Brooks-Sumpter had 23 points on nine for 19 shooting and six assists. Abigail Wilson of the Bulldogs led the team with 10 rebounds.
