On Dec. 18, 2025, Major League Soccer held its 26th edition of the MLS SuperDraft. Three Panthers were hoping to hear their names called as many other students enjoyed a stress-free winter break.

Heading into the season the Panthers were unranked in the NCAA Division I men’s soccer preseason poll by the United Soccer Coaches. Only two games into the season the group has proved to everyone why they deserve to be put in conversations with big name teams such as Vermont, Pittsburgh, Stanford and Wake Forest.

There had been some rumors about the possibility that our head coach, Alan Huss, could leave during the High Point Men’s basketball team’s first ever March Madness tournament appearance. However, our biggest fear didn’t turn into a reality until Thursday April 10 at lunchtime. It was revealed that Huss would be heading back to his alma mater, Creighton, as a head-coach-in-waiting.

Not just one, but both High Point University basketball teams will be advancing to the 2025 NCAA tournament for the first time in school history after the women’s team defeated No. 2 Longwood University, 59-53, on Sunday night in the Big South Conference championship game.

High Point University and UNC Greensboro are both coming off losses and are looking to get back on track and into the winning column. This is a big game for both teams and not just because 13 miles separate the two universities, but because of the momentum this game carries for both schools as they near conference play.

On the women’s side of the bracket, UNC Asheville will be taking on HPU after defeating Gardner-Webb 75-74. The Bulldogs were led to victory by the leading scorer of the game McKinley Brooks-Sumpter. For the first time since the 2015-16 season under Head Coach Scott Cherry, the High Point University men’s basketball team clinched the Big South conference regular season championship on senior night, Wednesday, as HPU defeated Winthrop, in an overtime thriller, 100-96.

The High Point University Panthers defeated the Longwood University Lancers on Thursday Feb. 1, 93-76, in front of a packed Qubein Center under the big lights. Kezza Giffa led the way for HPU with a game-high 24 points.

The stage is set. The spotlight and the bright lights are on as the (18-4) High Point University Panthers face off against the (14-8) Longwood University Lancers on ESPNU at 7 p.m ET.

With over 4,000 fans in attendance, High Point University and UNC Asheville went head to head in a game that made history. The arena was filled with energy from tip-off, making the environment and the entire Qubein Center electric.
